Optimum polishing results can be achieved using cerium oxide slurries and felts or composition wheels. Cup wheels are used for grinding bevels and flat edges. The cup wheel configuration allows for total grinding surface contact with the glass surface. The alignment greatly reduces the need for retruing and increases the processing capabilities of a wider range of glass thickness.

Cup type composition wheels are manufactured with a metal, plastic or a composite mounting plate bonded to a ring-shaped composition wheel to form a cup configuration. Cup type composition wheels use their "face" surface to exclusively polish flat surfaces. This configuration maximizes wheel life by exposing the maximum polishing wheel surface area to the gals.
